Checking for Vehicle Theft

Updated: October 16, 2023

It's crucial to thoroughly inspect the technical condition of a used automobile before purchase, but its legal cleanliness is equally important. The legal cleanliness of an automobile makes life easier for the buyer.

An automobile owner may wish to sell the vehicle at an inflated price and, therefore, typically conceals any issues the automobile may have. However, in some cases, the situation is more complicated—the seller intentionally offers a "criminal" vehicle to the buyer, such as a vehicle wanted for theft.

Checking for theft based on the state number protects the buyer from wasting time, money, and nerves.

Owning a vehicle stolen by theft is not a pleasant experience. What are the consequences of purchasing a stolen vehicle? The vehicle may be confiscated in the YPX database, and when the buyer registers the vehicle in their name, it may be seized.

Various scenarios may then unfold:

  • If the seller was not involved in the theft (purchasing the vehicle without inspection), but the vehicle was registered without being flagged in the YPX search database, the buyer loses both the vehicle and the money;
  • If the seller has knowledge of the vehicle's criminal history, you may attempt to find it and seek to reclaim the money through legal means (this is difficult, lengthy, and rarely successful). If the money is returned, it happens over several years and in installments. The buyer still loses the vehicle in any case.

YPX databases may not react if the vehicle is stolen, leaving the risk of participation in a criminal offense by using the vehicle for several months. If the fact of theft is discovered after the buyer registers the vehicle, proving that the theft check was forgotten and not participating in the theft and concealment of the vehicle will require significant effort over a long period.

CarCheck.az, which allows for checking a vehicle for theft based on the state number, is a special online service for obtaining accurate, detailed, and correct information about a vehicle. How does CarCheck.az enable checking a vehicle? It's simple:

  1. Visit the service portal;
  2. Enter the automobile's state registration number, VIN code, or chassis number into the search bar;
  3. Click the search button;
  4. Wait for 5 minutes;
  5. Learn the obtained information.

The service ensures the provision of up-to-date information on the date of application. Through reliable search algorithms enabling access to state and commercial databases, information is frequently updated in real-time.

Checking for vehicle theft is not the only feature provided by the service. While it's important to know whether a vehicle is wanted, this information alone may not be enough for the buyer to make a decision because the vehicle is expensive.

In addition to the report, you can learn how many owners the vehicle has had, whether it belongs to individuals or organizations, how many times the vehicle has been registered (i.e., changed hands), whether the vehicle is under warranty, lease, or impound, whether the vehicle has been involved in an accident, and if so, how severe the damages are, whether the owner conducts regular technical inspections, whether they have issued CTP insurance, whether the vehicle is flagged for registration, whether the vehicle has been used in taxi or car-sharing services, whether the vehicle has participated in accident car auctions, and whether the vehicle has been deregistered for decommissioning.

Additionally, the service provides information about the vehicle's sale history based on popular internet platforms (here you can see how the vehicle was presented in other ads, the mileage displayed, and the price they wanted for it).
