Inspection for Warranty and Credit of the Vehicle
Many second-hand car buyers believe that the main issue is finding a car in good technical condition: without accident and repair histories. Many also search for cars from private sellers, considering purchasing from a dealer as an additional risk. However, they often forget that even the owner may not have the right to own the car! How is this possible, and how can you avoid such surprises? The answer: legally inspect the purchased car and check it for warranties beforehand.
Importance of Checking if the Car is Under Warranty
Checking if the car is under warranty will show whether the owner has the right to manage the car at will. The creditor or lender accepting the car as collateral for financial obligations may prohibit the sale of the car in the contract and may need the consent of the lender to sell it. The debt contract has full legal force, and in case of revealing the fact of selling the car without the lender's knowledge, the court supports the injured party and decides to return the car from the new owner. Yes, the buyer has the right to dispute such a decision and demand the cancellation of the purchase-sale agreement (DKP) and compensation for the value of the car from the seller. But who wants to get involved in a court dispute?
Checking the Car for Warranty on CarCheck
Checking the car for warranty is included in the mandatory inspection list in the CarCheck service report. For this, a query is sent to the Federal Notarial Chamber database.
How to Check the Car for Warranty Before Purchase?
Checking the car for warranty by VIN number is possible only in one way - with the database of the Federal Notarial Chamber (FNP).
If the VIN number is unknown (for example, when you have not yet discussed it with the seller) and only the registration number is available, then checking the car for warranty by the registration number remains. And here, it is more appropriate to use the CarCheck service, which conducts a comprehensive check of the car based on multiple different databases, including the Federal Notarial Chamber.
There are also indirect signs about the risks of a warranted car:
- Duplicate of the vehicle's registration certificate (PTS). The guarantor has the right to take the original PTS to protect the ownership right to the car until the debt is repaid.
- Lack of a purchase-sale agreement for the vehicle. If the car was purchased on credit, this fact will be noted in the DKP.
- Taking out a loan for the car may be reflected in the insurance policy (CASCO). Usually, buyers do not inquire or check the availability of CASCO, and sellers may not even be aware that information about the financial burden on the car may be there.
- The period of use of the car by the previous owner is less than three years, and the price of the car is below the average market price. These facts do not directly indicate that the car is under warranty. However, they are relevant to it, indicating the need for additional checks.
Advantages of Inspection on CarCheck
The main advantage of checking the car for warranty on CarCheck is the ability to check the car not only by VIN number but also by the registration number. If the buyer wants to check the car for warranty (for example, to save time on inspecting the car), then the registration number information will be the starting point.
Also, CarCheck checks the car information from other sources - such as YPX or Arbitration Courts. Why is this important? The point is that the guarantor is not obliged to provide information to the Federal Notarial Chamber's database. In this case, you can only find out about the warranty from alternative sources or indirect signs - such as issuing a duplicate PTS.
Finally, the check on CarCheck is faster than the official services of government agencies: here, there is no need to enter captchas or go through section by section, and the query will be executed regardless of whether the official verification service is currently working.
